Fragrant pine woods stretch out along the mountain crests. Marmaris is the perfect destination for wonderful days on the beach with lots to see and do, and plenty of sun to be basked in.

Beautiful coastline, friendly people, good fresh foods. The summer is long and good weather is virtually guaranteed between May and as late as end October.

Marmaris Castle

The small castle on the hill behind the tourist office was built during the reign of Süleyman the Magnificent. In 1522 the sultan massed 200,000 troops here for the attack and siege of Rhodes, which was defended by the Knights of St John. The fortress is now the Marmaris Museum. Exhibits are predictably nautical, historical, ethnographic and fairly unexciting, though the building itself, draped in bougainvillea, and the views over the marina and out to sea are lovely.


Beaches

Marmaris' beaches may be narrow and pebbly but you can actually swim in the city centre. Much nicer beaches, however, at İçmeler and Turunç, few minutes respectively to the southwest, can be reached by dolmuşes from outside the Tansaş Shopping Centre. From May to October, water taxis also link the waterfront on either side of the Atatürk statue with İçmeler and Turunç. The beach at Günlücek Park, a forest park reserve 3.5km southeast of Marmaris, is also accessible by dolmuş from outside Tansaş Shopping Centre.

Shopping

Marmaris is a great place for shopping. Here you can find wide range of products from modern shopping center and mall, to varied colorful bazaars, as well as local authentic markets.

By the tourism season most of the stores in Marmaris and Icmeler, are open until midnight, and some of them even more.

Among of the famous products that you can find in Marmaris as well as in all of Turkey, are leather goods, Turkish carpets, jewelry, Turkish coffee, ceramic items, Turkish delight such as Halva, Baklava, Apple tea, Lokum, Pines honey, Spices and more.
 

In Marmaris area there are all kind of goods and products, from the local producing, as well as International brand names. Is recommended to tour the main Marmaris streets, also the side roads, since there are many other shops and stores that offer there products to the locals, and you probably find a better deal comparing to the Tourist shops.
